Orbital BDC Modules

Orbital Rack-mount chassis contain up to four Orbital BDC modules.  C Band BDC modules come in a variety of Input and Output frequencies, bandwidths, connectors, and gains.  Other options include external DC, always on oscillators, alarm reporting modules, and many other options.

Features:

General Description

The 1RU, 19 inch rack-mount, C-band block downconverter assembly translates RF inputs in the 3.4~4.2 GHz C-band to IF outputs in L-band in two manually switchable bands.

The converters contain internal crystal controlled, high stability frequency references.  Constantly powered-up crystal oscillators require no warm-up time when switching to the BDC.  If the rack-mount chassis contains multiple external reference BDC modules, a splitter provides signal to all of the BDCs at once.  Non-selected units will have their local VCO oscillators powered down to minimize spurious and in-band interference.

Orbital Design:

The single rack-mount unit integrates one or more Block Downconverter Modules (BDCs), into a single, rack-mount chassis.  Orbital offers a variety of choices for the BDC frequency range from 3.40 to 4.20 GHz, as well as the India band of 4.50 to 4.80 GHz.

Orbital also manufactures an external reference version.

Internal/External Power Supplies:

(Optional)

Power supplies, historically, have the lowest MTBF of the components in a system.   Orbital designs Internal/External power supply configurations that provide inexpensive and rapid power supply replacement.  A secondary benefit is the lower operating temperature of the external power supply, thus extending its life.

The external power supply, the main power supply, needs to be 24VDC with a minimum current rating of 1.2 Amps.   If the main power supply fails, the system switches to the internal power supply.  This gives the customer time to replace the external power supply without any down-time, nor does he have to take the entire rack-mounted chassis in for repair.

Flexible Solutions:

You can cover both Horizontal and Vertical polarities, and/or have the security of redundant BDCs in the same Orbital Rack-mount chassis.

Enhancing Standard Products:

Mass production means low-cost, reliable, repeatable products.  Engineers design these products well within margins on component specifications thus requiring no individual tuning to meet desired specifications.

As we modify product, we also tweak the design and components to optimize them for their inherent capabilities.  Effectively, we bring out the full potential of the product by adjusting components to their full capability.
