The Orbital Phase Locked Oscillator (PLO) is designed for satellite communications systems requiring extremely accurate timing and ultra-low phase noise. By phase-locking to a station 10 MHz reference, the PLO filters extraneous signals and significantly reduces system phase noise, enabling reliable operation with high-order modulation and coding schemes. In locking to the 10 MHz reference, it generates 2 (or 6) 100 MHz outputs.
The PLO allows a single station reference clock to be distributed across non-collocated equipment, such as modems and frequency converters, while maintaining or improving overall clock integrity. This ensures coherent system timing across complex ground architectures without phase noise degradation.
